Is the end of the year, the best moment to put the past events on their just context ? Tottenham’s and France’s Captain Hugo Lloris, seems to think so; during in a depth interview for french sports newspaper L’Equipe, he talked freely and in depth about his professional life during the past year.
Terrorism and Les Bleus
“After the win vs Germany(2-0) at the Stade de France, we stayed with the Germans untill 4 o’clock in the morning; no one talked about the game, players and journalists alike; it was a very special moment of sharing togetherness and solidarity. When we returned to our camp base the chateau de Clairefontaine, we couldn’t sleep, so we stayed together watching the events on tv. During the days before the Wembley game, football wasn’t at all in our mind; our thoughts were about family, friends and a lot of questions unanswered about the world we’re living today.
Before the Wembley game the big question was should we play the game or not ? The truth is that we weren’t fit (mentally and physically) to play. We came and played because it was our duty as Frenchmen and also because we wanted to participate in that great moment of solidarity. Nevertheless it was too hard to bear; I was expecting that emotion, the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge clad Wembley, La Marseillaise sang by the whole stadium, but the minute of silence was too emotional, too hard to bear.
Thinking back about this game, I wonder if I shouldn’t have asked Coach Didier Deschamps not to play it; I was lost and feeling so bad that I was enable to concentrate on the game. Play again in the Stade de France ? Yes, of course I’m not afraid. On the contrary we must return, play and show our faith to the security people who work hard to keep us safe.”
Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham
“Since the arrival of Pochettino, many things changed; I feel as a new man and I even progressed under this coach guidance. My second season with the club was a difficult one; changing twice coach and staff, isn’t my way to appreciate a football club. In my thoughts that Tottenham was not a strong club, but an unstable one and I must admit that before his arrival, I had a lot of unanswered questions, about my future.
I don’t know if we’ll be able to win the Championship this year, but everything is possible in football. That could be possible considering the other opponents but let’s say that for this season it’s not the club’s natural object if. But in the near future, considering all the good work the club is doing, our coach’s project and philosophy , the youth and quality of our team and the new stadium in 2018, there’s everything we need to be serious contenders.”
Will the players continue showing their faith to their Argentinian coach ? The first answer will be vs Everton (Away) Sunday the 3rd.
