Champions League : PSG vs Barcelona 1-3 Players Ratings and Highlights Part 1

CAiZhCuXEAEA2Iw

A night to forget for the Parisian club; having lost several key players(injuries/redcarted) PSG’s boss Laurent Blanc failed to produce a team able enough to threaten the Catalan Giant. The last throw was Thiago’s Silva injury, wich precipitated David Luiz entrance in the arena; the Brazilian International spent two weeks in Russia, where wizards/doctors helped him to cure the injury picked up vs Marseilles. Was he ready for that ? Certainly not ! On the pitch, he was more a ghost than a professional player, but  then, he was Blanc’s only option.

Barcelona, contrarily to Paris, had the perfect Champions League night; not too tedious, kept the ball as they usually do and played their game quietly, giving some nice opportunities to MSN(Messi-Suarez-Neymar) to shine. A quiet day at the office, one might say.(Editor’s note: 1,69 chance for PSG to qualify after the second leg ! BONNE CHANCE PSG !)

Here’s the heroes and the villains of yesterday’s game.

PARIS  ST  GERMAIN

Salvadore Sirigu :  4/10

How come that a club wanting Champions League glory can rely to a goalkeeper like Sirigu ? He’s perfect for Ligue 1 but certainly not good enough against big European clubs! At fault for at least two of the goals, he was shaky, most of the time.(two decent saves, that’s all !)

Gregory van der Wiel : 5,5/10

– It’s not easy to keep silent a player, like Neymar, isn’t it Greg? The Brazilian defender  had lots to do, during the first half but less in the second; he added the game’s fourth goal, late on.

Thiago Silva : /   David Luiz : 3/10

He wasn’t his usual self; injured, he left the pitch (19th) and was replaced by David Luiz, not fit enough to face Barcelona’s armada. Torn to pieces by Suarez, he had a nightmarish night!

Marquinhos : 5,5/10

Too young to boss the Parisian defense; he was able to keep  the defense together for a long spell, but was at fault for the catalan goal.

Maxwell : 5/10

Solid first period, good reading of the game, he struggled in the second half, especially against Suarez. Interesting interaction with Mathuidi.

Adrien Rabiot : 4,5/10

It’s not easy to note such a young player in his first CL game; lost possession in the build up for  Barça’s first goal, had some interesting moves and got subbed by Lucas(65th).

Yohan Cabaye : 4/10

The Frenchman had a difficult time; this was his chance to show his quality, but he was virtually absent of any action. His only feat was the yellow card for aggressing Iniesta (37th).

Blaise Mathuidi : 6,5/10     MOTM

He got the armband after Motta’s injury and  he  was the best Parisian. The Captain tried to help his teammates at both ends of the field. Good interaction with Maxwell and Pastore, but not enough to avoid the defeat.

Javier Pastore : 5,5/10

Looked good with the ball, but very much alone when he tried to breach the Catalan defense. He missed a golden chance, early in the game .

Edinson Cavani : 3,5/10

Another player who’d like to erase that game, from his memory! Playing in Zlatan’s Ibrahimovic place he just wasn’t able to score against the Catalans; he even wasted two good chances, did he lose the striker’s touch ?

Ezequiel Lavezzi : 5/10

A mixed bag of good and bad… good defending but no accuracy in transmitting the ball; 74% the worst of all his teammates!

Here’s the game’s Highligts :
