Chelsea are knocked out of the Champions League, jinxed by a courageous, vibrant french team, a 10- man PSG, on the away goals rule. The home side were outplayed and outfought despite the unjustified expulsion of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and a soft (?) penalty by the referee, a Joker for both teams as he conveniently forgot a real penalty against Diego Costa and one or two red cards, fully justified!
Who was the best and who was the worst ? Here’s the players ratings:
Thibauld Courtois : 6,5/10
The Belgian goalkeeper, was his usual self; great save from Thiago’s Silva header in extra time, but bad positioning for PSG’s equalizer.
Branislav Ivanovic :
Good in defense, he took advantage of Ibrahimovic’s red card; bet he was glad when Cavani’s shot hit the post.
César Aspilicueta : 6
He run a lot,and combined well with Hazard, thus giving Pastore some frights, mostly in the second half.
Gary Cahill : 7/10
Quite good when needed to defend Paris’ attacks plus a wonderful strike to score Chelsea’s first goal(81st).
Jonh Terry : 6,5/10
The Blues captain, denied twice Cavani’s efforts and provided the flip-back for Cahill’s goal, but he was at fault for Silva’s equalizer.
Oscar : 5,5/10
And the Oscar, goes to… please someone tell the guy that the Oscar Ceremony is over, so that he can play football, you know, the game ? Good defending; he was subbed after the first half, thus avoiding to get a red card of his own.
Nemanja Matic : 5,5/10
Solid game, but wasn’t able to stop Veratti’s and Pastore’s quick tempo.
Cesc Fabregas : 5/1
Another difficult game for the Spaniard, good distribution, but the magic between him and Costa is now a thing of the past.(Will it ever come back?)
Ramires : 5,5/10
He tried, but he was just not good enough to gain any of the midfield battle.
Eden Hazard : 7/10
Skills, galore; what a delightful player ! Unfortunately that wasn’t enough to breach the Parisian defense; very cool penalty !
Diego Costa : 5/10
He could have gained a penalty, but also one or two red cards. Some difficult situations with Luiz and Silva; needs to cool down, that could benefit the team.
