Man of the Match: Thiago Motta (8)

The Parisian Captain was simply outstanding; he showed his class on the construction of the game and demonstrated his great class from start to finish. He was also on the corner kick which led to Verratti’s first goal.

PARIS ST GERMAIN:

Salvatore Sirigu (5,5): could do better, not only about the goals, but also about his distribution. The Italian custodian alternated good and bad.

Van der Wiel (6,5):  Serge Aurier’s absence, gave the opportunity to the Dutch player to strengthen his position in the squad. He was solid behind, good defending plus an assist on Mathuidi’s goal.

Marquinhos (6):

The former La Roma’s player, showed good spirit and managed a good show against his direct opponent, thus the important tackle versus Jordi Alba (83)

David Luiz (7):  the player had been criticised since his arrival from Chelsea; his latest performance against Toulouse, was also very poor. Tonight’s performance was very different, showing a player trying to make amends, scoring the first goal and helping his teammates.

Maxwell(6): he did his job discreetly against his former team, not always decisive but he was good, muzzling Pedro Rodriguez, when needed.

Thiago Motta (8):  see above

Blaise Mathuidi (7,5): the French’s international fitness is coming back slowly and tonight he  showed several glimpses of his former self .Rewarded for his efforts by scoring the third goal for his team.

Marco Verratti (7,5) : after 92 games played for the Parisian club, he scores at last ! And what goal for a first one! Did he planned this way? Anyhow the Italian playmaker wrote a beautiful page in the club’s history; also he showed his good passing skills.Replaced by Cabaye(71th)

Xavier Pastore(8):  this is the season of redemption, for El Flaco ! After many disappointments, the former player of Palermo, was everywhere tonight and helped a lot his teammates, using well his vista of the game, setting the Catalan defense on fire. Subbed by Chantome(86th)

Lucas (6,5):  he’s coming back after missing the World Cup; he was involved in the first goal (Luiz 11th)  and he surely gave some nightmares to Jordi Alba . Replaced by Bahebeck (90+1)

Edinson Cavani (4):  very disappointing performance tonight for the Parisian player. Having the responsibility to score( Zlatan Ibrahimovic, was in the stands, still injured)  he showed very poor skills in attack and failed to create scoring opportunities for his teammates. A game to forget.
